Steve Winwood has left his mark on the blues, rock, and pop scenes through the years. Early in his career, Winwood backed famed American blues singers such as Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, Howlin’ Wolf, and Chuck Berry. Highly regarded for his vocal range and organ playing, Winwood has since contributed writing, vocal, and instrumental efforts to a range of bands and artists. He plays the organ on Joe Cocker’s cover of “With A Little Help From My Friends.”  Winwood later embarked on a more pop-oriented solo career, releasing several #1 hits and albums. Here, we focus on his early efforts as a member of The Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, and Blind Faith.
